In 2000, Iraq broke it’s agreement with the United States to sell oil exclusively in dollars and began selling oil for euros. It should come as no surprise that Iraq was not invaded because they had weapons of mass destruction. More likely is the notion that the invasion was, indeed, in the economic interests of the United States - even for oil. On June 5, 2003, just months after the May 1 end-date, Iraq announced that it would start selling oil “to the highest bidder” [in USD]. This Wall Street Journal article teases with “competition, not good will, is the best way to rehabilitate Iraq’s oil fields.”

The reason I point out the Iraqi invasion is because another, more recent invasion also happens involve the United States dollar. Gaddafi was planning to introduce a gold dinar – “a single African currency made from gold, a true sharing of the wealth.” He was going to do this through the polity known as the African Union, a collaborative economic and social effort mimicking the European Union (and, to some extent, the UN). “In 2009 — in his capacity as head of the African Union — Libya’s Moammar Gadhafi had proposed that the economically crippled continent adopt the ‘Gold Dinar,’” said Ilana Mercer in an August opinion piece for WorldNetDaily. “I do not know if Col. Gadhafi continued to agitate for ditching the dollar and adopting the Gold Dinar — or if the Agitator from Chicago got wind of Gadhafi’s (uncharacteristic) sanity about things monetary.”

But if Arab and African nations had begun adopting a gold-backed currency, it would have had major repercussions for debt-laden Western governments (particularly the United States) that would be far more significant than the purported “democratic” uprisings sweeping the region this year.

Likewise, Iran and the Asian countries have also elicited a hostile reaction from the United States. Why? Because China dropped the dollar in favor of the Yuan for all oil exchanges; because China has a bilateral currency agreement with Japan and with Russia; because India doesn’t even use the dollar to pay for Iran’s oil, they use gold. Speaking of Iran, don’t let Turkey’s opposition to their ally Syria fool you - they’ve been exchanging gold for oil since March.

Does the foregone conclusion of an Iranian invasion make sense now? There is no Iranian nuclear threat. These Asian countries dropping the dollar is the fruition of the money’d interests’ fears. If Iran were completely sovereign, free do control what it does with its own economy, instead of suffering economically by U.S.-imposed sanctions, it could cast an umbrella over its neighbors for protection. They could rely on Iran for protection and economic support. The United States does not want this. If Iran becomes a power-play, it, Russia, and China will be a formidable economic powerhouse poised to absolutely crush the already-crumbling U.S. economy.
